This site is offered as a consumer service by the Florida Association of Insurance Agents to those who are tired of being promised one thing and being provided another.
Florida’s homeowners insurance market is arguably the most complicated and confusing in the United States, especially for consumers starving for the lowest premium and the best deal. Hurricane Andrew in 1992, then a total of eight storms in sixteen months during the infamous 2004/2005 seasons, all worked to change Florida’s homeowners insurance marketplace and the legislative and regulatory landscape that you, the consumer, must navigate. Percentage deductibles, property valuation and replacement cost issues, mandatory uniform mitigation credits, statutory cancellation requirements, law and ordinance coverage, and different policies from over 200 insurance companies may create more options and lower prices, but…they also substantially increase your difficulty in making the right choice!
Your home is likely your most cherished investment; yet, for the past decade or more, you’ve faced rapidly escalating rates and increased costs related to repairing or rebuilding after a loss such as a hurricane. These price increases are occurring at the same time as wholesale cancellations and non-renewals and fear over record-breaking insolvencies. In these perilous times, you must be diligent when shopping for the lowest price, especially when dealing with people you don’t know or may not be able to trust.
With any important decision, the first step is to know who you are dealing with, who you can trust, and who has both the motivation and “ability” to provide you with the widest range of options.
After all…you can’t make an informed decision if you don’t know the truth about your policy, your company, and the agent who sold it to you!
